WINTER

The messages had started out innocently enough.

One Friday night, just home from my new job, I had a DM from Rand pop up:

Am I breaking the laws of winter, spring, and summer if I tell you I love a woman in uniform?

He was talking about the pizzeria T-shirt and matching baseball cap I wore in the last picture I’d posted. That bright shiny feeling of spring, summer, and winter glowed through me. It outshone my embarrassment that he knew I worked at a pizza place.

My fingers fumbled to message back: The laws of summer be damned.
